Stuck on the edge of two worlds

How can we explain the numerous evidence of ghostly visits that have been appearing for centuries? What does humanity know about their essence, about the meaning of coming from the world of the dead to the world of the living? Almost nothing. We only know that ghosts are a phenomenon that manifests itself in clearly defined places and under certain conditions. Most often, ghosts appear in surroundings familiar to the deceased; often they are former participants in very tragic events. And mostly ghosts do not wish harm to others - on the contrary, some even do good deeds. Why? Let's try to figure it out.

On the edge of two worlds. Lady in brown.

Everyone has heard about this legend, for which thanks to the famous English writer F. Marietta. One day, while staying at the Rainham Manor estate, which was the property of Lord Townshend, Mariette fell asleep while sitting next to an ancient portrait. Before that, he looked intently at the face of a beautiful woman in a brown robe. He looked for so long that he even felt as if the painted lady was staring at him herself.

It got dark, Mariette went into the hall, wanting to study the collection of firearms. He was about to return to his chambers, but suddenly he noticed a Lady in a brown dress silently approaching him with a barely burning lamp. Taking a closer look, Mariette realized that he saw in front of him not a real person, but a ghost. He immediately pulled out a revolver and pulled the trigger. A loud shot rang out in the huge mansion, the bullet passed unhindered through the phantom of the Lady in Brown and stuck into the wall. The ghost calmly moved on and soon disappeared, going around the corner...

The portrait of the Lady in Brown shows a lovely woman in a brown dress with a snow-white lace collar. The canvas came to the Townshends along with the home from the old owners, who themselves had no idea what kind of person was represented on it. The legend of the ghost in the brown dress would not have stood out in any way from dozens of similar stories if the Lady in the Picture had not turned out to be one of the first ghosts who could be photographed in the last century. In the photograph, a light figure located on the stairs is clearly visible. The steps can be seen through it. So in the first half of the twentieth century, the ghost became a reality.

Later, this amazing photograph could be found in all sorts of printed publications.

The Lady in Brown has already appeared in public before. In the 19th century, she visited a girl living in a mansion and convinced her not to take part in the hunt, otherwise irreparable things would happen: the young lady’s head would be bruised, her neck, arm and ankles would be broken. But it so happened that another person rode her horse - one of the guests. The horse hit the fence while jumping and the bloody rider was left lying on the ground.

The doctor stated that death came exactly from those wounds and fractures that the Lady in Brown predicted for the girl.

At the beginning of the last century, the ghost of the Lady warned the residents of the estate that they should not travel for a while in their own car.

Researchers argued a lot about this curious phenomenon, but could not agree on a single point of view. They logically decided that evidence where a ghost is encountered not individually, but by whole groups of people (as with the Lady in Brown) is most attractive. This reduces the likelihood of being fooled by false eyewitnesses. Moreover, the witnesses did not receive an ounce of benefit from their stories; as a result, there was practically no meaning to the deception.

However, later experts put forward two hypotheses that supposedly explain the phenomenon of the ghost lady. One of them is telepathy. The lady in brown was talking with the residents of the estate. But it is inconceivable that a ghost, which does not have a physical body and does not have vocal cords, could talk to living people. It would be more reasonable to assume that one of the people located nearby was a strong source of the telepathic signal, and others picked up this signal in the form of auditory and visual data.

Opponents of the theory of telepathy argued their point of view by the fact that for several centuries such a human source simply could not exist. Or, for many years, a whole “family” of people with supernatural abilities has been found within the estate, which mystifies the residents. If so, then what is the point for them to do this? In appearance - none.

By the way, it turns out that there was even a combination of telepathy and predicting the future. Otherwise, how could the ghost of the Lady foreshadow the impending death of one of the owners of the estate? And again, there is no point in anyone doing such things. In general, the secret remained a secret.

Lady in Gray.

This is the nickname of another ghost often seen in the middle of the 20th century in a huge London hospital. The first incident occurred in the fall of 1956.

The nurse made the rounds of the wards, checking patients and giving medications. A decrepit old man with cancer said that he was terribly thirsty. The sister went to fetch water. However, upon her return, the old man no longer wanted to drink. According to him, the water is There was an elegant girl dressed all in gray. Very soon the patient died.

Another nurse told Dr. P. Turner, who described the story of the Lady in Gray, how she helped wash a patient with a malignant tumor. Out of the blue, the patient asked whether she often worked together “with the second sister,” which confused the girl - there had never been a “second sister” who was on duty in parallel with her. The patient said that the second sister wore a gray dress (this is what all hospital doctors wore until 1920, before blue coats were introduced). “She comes to see me regularly,” the patient said. Some time later he died.

In connection with the available data, Dr. Turner published an article where he honestly spoke about the things going on in the hospital. By his action, the doctor brought down a mountain of aggressive criticism on himself - he was accused of all possible sins. Although there were some scientists who took the events in the hospital seriously. Only they began to “screw in” options for the Lady in Gray with telepathy, clairvoyance, and an unusual level of consciousness of patients standing on the verge of two worlds (between this world and the next world).

Everyone missed an extremely important point, which was outlined by the American professor R. Hower: ghosts always came, wanting to help people.

Guests from purgatory.

Hower spoke about other famous cases, in particular, the story of the ghost of A. Lincoln, appearing in the White House during difficult times. Or the legend about the spirit of a suicide with traces of a noose on his neck, who walked through the Elysee Palace shortly before the great changes in the fate of France. With such sudden appearances, the researcher believes, ghosts seem to warn people about difficult periods or dangers approaching for the country.

There are a lot of examples when the spirits of the departed, who returned to the material world, saved people’s lives in car accidents, attacks, fires, etc. But why is there such a strict division of ghosts into two groups: some appear in people only to instill fear in them, while others help humanity?

There is an opinion that ghosts often come intending to “suck out” the psychic energy of living people. This energy nourishes the entities living in the subtle world. They are ruled by a force that many centuries ago we dubbed the Devil.

“Benevolent” ghosts are found in another facet of the subtle world - in purgatory. While here, the soul is probably doing its best to atone for the sins it once committed. It is possible to perform good deeds in our material world. This is how the souls of sinners earn forgiveness...
